Week 10: Behind the Scenes: Head 5_Final
This is our final rendered job, based on the Blade Runner video clip, and I first sensitized the camera position compared to last week. This allowed the final image to overlap as much as possible with the footage, and then I set the camera parameters for the sky mask to zero so that the background could be exported as a transparent channel of black for the rest of the composite render.

During the rendering process I chose to use the EXR format for the sequence images. Afterwards I imported the sequence image into Eh and added the background and rain effects. Finally I used Pr again to combine the sound with the picture.

Week 9: Balloon Festival test 4 & 2D_cleanup
The third Balloon Festival test adds dark clouds to the previous project, these clouds are a sequence of three dark clouds that combine to form the sky. The three clouds were then panned using the ‘Transform’ node. Next I changed my overall colour node, updated the overall flickering effect caused by the lightning, and added a glow node to the lightning in the background so that not only the colour but also the overall effect style of the lightning effect. Finally the rendering was done to mov format.

The second stage was the creation of the sound effects. I went to a free sound effects website and found the sound of wind, thunder and electricity. In addition to this, I also found a piece of low music for the background. I sequenced these in Pr and adjusted the volume decibels. The final export is Balloon Fantasy 4.0 mp4.

2D cleanup is an exercise for the week 9 course. For comparison and practice, I have added new nodes to the original file. The purpose of the cleanup is to combine the previous roto and tracker nodes with other nodes to clean up the screen and add objects to the screen. After creating CornerPin2D in the tracker node, the text was added to the screen by copying and adding text nodes to this node. The erasing effect is achieved with RotoPaint. In this I can replace some of the objects in the frame with backgrounds by copying the brush. The Premult and FrameHold nodes then allow them to blend in with the picture.

Following the instruction of Nike’s tutor, first I used BOS to screen record a YouTube video of the Blade Runner film clip. Then I used AE to adjust the tones and colours, which made the characters clearer in the picture. Finally, I used AE to export the image sequence and import it into MAYA.
Using the Blade Runner film footage, I used the graphics editor to make each of the different mouth patterns. The main basic mouth shapes are “a”, “e”, “u” and “o”. Subsequent mouth shapes and facial details were further increased by the number of mouth shapes according to the picture sequence. The “th”, “v” and smiling mouth shapes are the most frequent. After the mouth animation the head movements and eye movements also need to be edited.

Finally we came to the rendering part, to make sure that the quality of the render and the format EXR is a good choice tif is also possible. After a long time of rendering a preliminary animation was finally obtained.
Week 8: Essay_Referencing
This week the tutor first reconfirmed the structure and formatting of the essay such as font size and line spacing, and secondly, we focused on how to properly cite literature in the essay. We looked at some examples, including ‘Harvard Referencing; Quick Guide’ and ‘UAL Harvard Citation and Visual Referencing Information’, which were very helpful to me.
Week 8: Poster & Balloon Festival test 3
While working on balloon festival 3, I encountered many problems and solved them one by one.
- The first thing I considered was the lightning effect in the background. I wanted the lightning from the sky to be behind the mountain, but in my first few attempts, the lightning would also turn to be in front of the mountain after the balloon had turned. Finally, Ruijia and I discussed the use of multiple layers of merge. By using the right grouping I was able to achieve the goal by using the roto of the mountain twice, which was successful.
- Different places so the colours were different. I adjusted it to blue-white by Color Correct, but the glowing effect I never got to try out the.
Poster’s exercise is based on roto to bring the two images together. Also the pole is eliminated with roto, which completes the shading relationship between the pole and the poster. Although simple it is a very useful exercise.
Week 8: Behind the Scenes: Head 4
Last week the rig bindings for the head model were completed and the initial weighting done. This week’s Maya head model is building on last week’s work to fix the details and make changes. The reason for the fix is that we need to use this model for animation. The animation process can be difficult to fix if there is a problem with the model or the weights, so we spent the whole week modifying the model and weighting details.

The weights were divided into three groups, the first group being the head and upper jaw, the second group being the lower jaw and the third group being the neck which never moves. The detail of the weights is very important, as I had a small spot in the inside of the mouth that was not painted as a head weight which caused the model to fall apart when animating the opening. After that it took me a long time to find the problem and fix it.

Incidentally, the model of the teeth was also created following the steps of the teacher based on the last model. And made the upper teeth and upper jaw bound into groups, and the lower teeth and lower jaw as well.
In class, the group discussed the topics of their essays. During my discussion, my tutor suggested that I needed to focus more on and look for examples of specific technologies and academic articles. As The Matrix Resurrections is a film from last year, there were very few papers on the specific technology used, which led me to look for articles on the technology to support my essay after learning about it from the film footage. Some of them even come from the official website of the effects engine.

We learned a new way of creating a tracker, and at the same time used Tracker to create Transform_Stablize. CornerPin2D3 transform shape.
This assignment was another exercise for the Roto node. Firstly, we were asked to roto and track the part of the screen where the finger was occluded from the screen. Afterwards, we used a gradient to change the screen at the moment the finger touched the screen to show a second image. This long strip of images has to slide up and down depending on the interaction between the finger and the screen. It uses key real animation frame animation in the morph node.
This is my first fantasy balloon test, I chose lightning effects, one of the lightning effects uses the exact same movement path as the balloon for the node, the other lightning effect is behind the mountain On the way to do this test I found a problem, because my balloon goes around from behind the mountain to the front of the mountain, this is achieved by using the shap keyframe in the roto node. But when the winter balloon goes around to the front of the mountain, the lightning behind the mountain also appears in front of the mountain because of the key really change in the delete but when the winter balloon goes around to the front of the mountain, the lightning behind the mountain also appears in front of the mountain because of the key frame change in the mountain.
